AT THE CROSSROADS Robert Johnson blues pop culture musical icons Limited Edition 9” x 12” signed paper print of artwork by Issa Ibrahim

$25.00

This is a paper print of a painting from 2022 and takes its title from ‘The Crossroads’ of highways 61 & 49 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, supposedly the blues musician Robert Johnson met Satan and sold his soul for impeccable guitar chops and unparalleled musical talent. It’s a tale as old as time, from Greek mythology to southern African American hoodoo. Caribbean natives heard the story as, Papa Legba/ Elegua/ Esu, the Orisha of the Crossroads, gave him those skills. So, you could see him as an offering. Maybe it became "Satan" because of the dominant culture's misunderstanding and mischaracterization of him…Either way it doesn’t end well, old Bob acquires the gifts and becomes a Blues legend but dies at the young age of 27, becoming the first and pre-eminent member of rock’s 27 Club, later claiming dozens (and counting) of Rock and Roll greats across generations.

9” x 12”, signed by the artist.

Comes with signed Certificate of Authenticity.
