The Justice League, The Avengers, The Beatles and a gaggle of villains all appear in this Marvel/DC crossover-mashup of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel masterpiece The Last Judgment. Painted in 2013, this piece moves us forward another evolution of the metaphor. A classically inspired series of Superman as Jesus and a loving homage to Michelangelo, it captures and personalizes most of my favorite moments in the original Sistine Chapel masterpiece while also tweaking key scenes toward geeked out fanboy elements that only the true devotees of comicdom would recognize and appreciate. Notice the deified Superman giving the hi sign to the artist’s original schizo-hero alter ego Superstar, sitting comfortably upon his baggage adorned with postcard stickers of the many strange places in his odyssey.
